If you’re attending DevBCN 2025, be sure to stop by our booth to:

  • See BoxLang in action with live demos
  • Learn how BoxLang compares to Java, Kotlin, Groovy, and Scala
  • Talk to our team about modernizing legacy systems
  • Explore how BoxLang accelerates development across web, APIs, and cloud

Why BoxLang?

BoxLang is a modern, dynamic language for the JVM built by developers for developers. With native support for modular development, dynamic loading, cloud-native tools, and full compatibility with CFML/ColdFusion syntax, BoxLang enables faster, smarter, and cleaner code.

Built by Ortus Solutions and backed by over 18 years of experience in enterprise software modernization, BoxLang is a powerful alternative to traditional JVM languages — designed for the next generation of software development.

MatchBox and WebAssembly: Running BoxLang in the Browser and at the Edge

The MatchBox open beta is live at https://boxlang.ortusbooks.com/boxlang-framework/matchbox, and it brings something genuinely new to the BoxLang ecosystem: a path into WebAssembly.

That means BoxLang code can now move into browser applications, static-site deployments, edge runtimes, and WASI-style containers - without requiring a JVM. The feature is still beta, but the core direction is already useful: write BoxLang, compile it with MatchBox, and ship the generated WASM artifact to wherever a small portable runtime makes sense.
