The BoxLang World Tour continued its journey across the globe, and this time it landed in Japan. On Friday, August 22, Luis Majano, CEO of Ortus Solutions and creator of BoxLang, presented "BoxLang: A New Dynamic JVM Language" to the Japan Java User Group (JJUG).

This event marked another milestone in BoxLang’s mission to bring innovation and modernization to the Java ecosystem. With developers from different backgrounds in attendance, the session showcased how BoxLang is rapidly gaining international traction as a new dynamic language for the JVM.

What the Session Delivered

During the presentation, Luis introduced BoxLang as a lightweight, modular, and highly productive language designed to run everywhere the JVM runs. The talk focused on:

  • Why the JVM still matters for modern development and how BoxLang extends it
  • BoxLang’s core features: modular runtime, optional typing, functional programming, and seamless Java interoperability
  • The ecosystem behind BoxLang, including frameworks, modules, and developer tools
  • Real-world applications and how BoxLang accelerates cloud-native, serverless, and enterprise-ready solutions

Attendees saw how BoxLang aims to empower developers by combining the expressiveness of dynamic languages with the stability and performance of the JVM.

Why Japan Matters for BoxLang

Japan has one of the largest and most active Java developer communities worldwide. Presenting to the Japan Java User Group was an opportunity to introduce BoxLang directly to a community deeply involved in the evolution of the JVM.

This stop reinforced BoxLang’s mission to:

  • Build awareness among enterprise developers and architects
  • Provide a modern alternative for teams looking to innovate beyond traditional Java
  • Strengthen the global network of contributors, users, and open-source advocates supporting BoxLang

BoxLang’s Global Momentum

From Europe to Latin America and now Asia, BoxLang is rapidly establishing itself as a language with global impact. Each stop of the BoxLang World Tour demonstrates growing interest in a solution that helps organizations:

  • Modernize legacy applications with less friction
  • Adopt serverless and cloud-native patterns faster
  • Leverage the power of the JVM without the complexity of traditional languages

Looking Ahead

The Tokyo presentation is only the beginning of BoxLang’s presence in Asia. As adoption grows, Ortus Solutions will continue engaging with developer communities, enterprises, and academic institutions worldwide to showcase how BoxLang is transforming the way modern applications are built.

Introducing the BoxLang Spring Boot Starter: Dynamic JVM Templating for Spring

Spring Boot developers know the pain of evaluating view technologies. Thymeleaf is great — until you need more expressiveness. FreeMarker is powerful — until the syntax fights you. What if you could write templates in a dynamic JVM language that gives you the full power of the platform, feels natural, and requires zero setup to integrate?

Meet the BoxLang Spring Boot Starter.

Why Swiss Banks Are Modernizing CFML Platforms Without Rewrites

The growing need to evolve legacy financial platforms safely

Many Swiss banks and financial institutions still operate important systems built on ColdFusion and CFML platforms.

These systems manage a wide range of functions, including:

  • internal banking workflows
  • reporting systems
  • client portals
  • data integration platforms
  • compliance and risk management tools

In many cases, thes...

Reactive vs Proactive ColdFusion Support: Why Waiting for an Outage Is the Most Expensive Strategy

Reactive vs Proactive ColdFusion Support: Why Waiting for an Outage Is the Most Expensive Strategy

Many ColdFusion environments operate in a reactive mode without realizing it.

Everything seems fine… until something breaks.

A server crashes.

Performance drops suddenly.

An integration stops working.

A security audit reveals missing patches.

At that point the response is urgent:

“Can someone help us fix this now?”

Emergency support is sometimes unavoidable. But when reactive intervention becomes the norm, it usually means something deep...
