BoxLang Takes Off in Japan: Evangelizing the Future of Modern Software Development!

First of all, WHAT? I know, right? It’s amazing!

The BoxLang global journey continues, and we’re beyond excited to share that our mission to evangelize modern software development is about to reach a whole new audience in Japan.

On Friday, 22 August 2025, from 19:00 to 21:00 JST, we’ll be presenting "BoxLang: A New Dynamic JVM Language" to a local Java User Group. In this upcoming session, we’ll introduce developers to a language built for productivityflexibility, and innovation, designed to run across multiple platforms and environments.

We’re proud to continue growing the BoxLang community around the world and connecting with developers who are passionate about building the future of software.

Interoperability at Its Core

BoxLang offers full Java interoperability, allowing developers to integrate seamlessly with existing Java libraries and systems. It enables you to work in a more expressive and productive language environment—without giving up the tools you already use.

A Language and a Framework

BoxLang isn’t just a programming language. It’s also a batteries-included framework designed to increase developer productivity from day one.

Some of the built-in capabilities include:

  • Scheduled tasks
  • Event-driven programming
  • Asynchronous execution
  • In-memory applications
  • Scripting and queue support
  • Modular architecture for scalable development

A Better Way to Script

Forget clunky shell or bash scripts. BoxLang provides a unified and dynamic scripting experience that’s both powerful and platform-independent. Whether you're working across operating systems or automating DevOps pipelines, BoxLang makes scripting simple and elegant.

Multi-Language Support

BoxLang supports multi-language runtime loading, so you can integrate languages like Python, PHP, JavaScript, and Groovy directly into your BoxLang applications. It’s all about giving you the flexibility to choose the best tool for the job, without limits.

MatchBox and WebAssembly: Running BoxLang in the Browser and at the Edge

The MatchBox open beta is live at https://boxlang.ortusbooks.com/boxlang-framework/matchbox, and it brings something genuinely new to the BoxLang ecosystem: a path into WebAssembly.

That means BoxLang code can now move into browser applications, static-site deployments, edge runtimes, and WASI-style containers - without requiring a JVM. The feature is still beta, but the core direction is already useful: write BoxLang, compile it with MatchBox, and ship the generated WASM artifact to wherever a small portable runtime makes sense.
